Formed by vocalist Cyclonis Niyil-ka and guitarist Shadow Venger, Empyreal Destroyer appeared with the self released ‘Chaos Torrent’ EP back in 2006. Naturally drawn to experimentation with their sound, and drawing inspiration from outside of the metal world as well as within, Empyreal Destroyer composed, and continues to compose towering soundscapes and epic constructions with haunting melodies, crossing death, thrash, black and progressive genres.
With spontaneous worldwide reviews, and an always active internet presence, the band was swiftly catapulted into recognition in the Underground. A second EP - ‘The Destroyer’ was self released in 2007, gaining radio play on over 100 stations worldwide. Interviews poured in from across the globe, and a line of t-shirts sold out before the band had even played a gig.
Pulling in guitarist Nordrus for the tour, and now permanent drummer Rzryx ( an ex-member of the pre-Akercocke Salem Orchid and more recently of Interlock and Primitive Graven Image ), Empyreal Destroyers first UK tour at the end of 2007 culminated in a headline slot at the Camden Underworld, and the band saw the year out by being voted not just no.1 unsigned band in Terrorizer magazine, but also 9th best newcomer overall.
2008 saw original guitarist Shadow Venger leave the band to purse other avenues in life. With new guitarist Khorozun and other session guitarists and temporary members, the band proceeded to play a number of profile shows, including a very well attended Saturday slot at the UK’s biggest metal festival ‘Bloodstock’ – - on a line up with bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Iced Earth, Akercocke and At The Gates. This increased the bands profile greatly, resulting in a number of interviews at the festival from all over Europe. Towards the end of the year band received an 8/10 review for just the demo versions of the latest album in Terrorizer, and saw the year out with a support slot to Amon Amarth on 20th December at Winterfest in Cork, Ireland.
With myspace plays regularly clocking 1000 - 2000 plays a day, and a widely growing international fan base, the search for a full line up continued throughout 2009. A seemingly impossible task, vocalist Cyclonis Niyil-ka left in May 2010, to be replaced within hours by Serberus so that the band could continue to play their slot at Enblackened 2010 - largely regarded as the band's most successful live outing yet.
With a number of new tracks currently in the demo stage, Empyreal Destroyer look forward to releasing a new album or EP when the time is right.
