Criterion Studios

Criterion Studios was created in 2002 by 140DB engineer/producer Mark Williams and studio technician Barney Herbert – in a very short time the studio and young producer became a favourite with numerous up and coming young bands including FIGHTSTAR, YOURCODENAMEIS: MILO and OCEANSIZE.

Formally located in Archway, the set up now resides in the legendary Battery Studios complex in Willesden Green. Occupying the flagship recording studio, Studio 3, which has a rich musical history from Bryan Adams, Iron Maiden and Joe Strummer through to Tom Jones, Robbie Williams and the All Saints.

From a technical stand point Mark and Barney have built a studio aimed at achieving the highest audio standards. They maintain a policy of constant improvement, from running analogue multitrack and the latest high end digital equipment side by side, to acquiring the best mics and mic amps.

The live room is capable of housing up to 30 musicians, many orchestral and string sessions have taken place in the past. Since returning to Battery, Criterion Studios have seen a number of prestigious projects including recordings for NINE BLACK ALPS, KT TUNSTALL, MILLION DEAD and PLACEBO.
